Invercargill-Southland Chess Club is proud to announce that Invercargill will be hosting the 2022 South Island Chess Championship. This is very exciting for us as the event has not been held here since 1992 and we endeavor to put on an event as memorable as that was for those who attended.

Venue
The event will be held at the Kelvin Hotel in Invercargill with play happening in the 6th Floor Conference Room. This room has great natural light and offers panoramic views of the city.
We also have reserved the Esk Room which is adjacent to the on site restaurant and will serve as a place for players to socialise and do post game analysis.
There is accommodation on site, players will have access to double rooms on the same floor the event is hosted for a rate of $130 per night per room (you can share rooms), information on how to book these rooms will be supplied when you register for the event.

Format
The South Island Chess Championship is an 8 round swiss in which 2 rounds per day will be played at a time control of 90+30.
The highest placed South Island resident will be the South Island Champion for 2022. We will be awarding the highest placed Southland resident the Southland Champion title for 2022.
The South Island Rapid Chess Championship is a 6 round swiss played in one day at a time control of 25+10. The highest placed South Island resident will be the South Island Rapid Champion for 2022.
Both events will be NZCF and FIDE rated. Players from out of the South Island are welcome to take part and eligible for prizes but not the championship titles.

Early entry fees are as follows (paid before 20th September):
South Island Chess Championship (Main Event)
Adult: $80
Junior: $40
South Island Rapid Chess Championship
Adult: $40
Junior: $20
Late entry fees are as follows (paid 20th of September onward):
South Island Chess Championship (Main Event)
Adult: $100
Junior: $50
No late entry fee for South Island Rapid Championship, entry on the day is fine.
